Ashworth, St. James. A chapel of St. James is known to have existed since at least 1514, and was most likely built by a Lord of Ashworth for his family and tenants. It was rebuilt in 1789 and enlarged in 1837. SJ 851 139. © Mike Berrell.

Astley, St. Stephen (built 1760). Previously in the unknown section, Alan Nixon has identified this church with some confidence, but not certainty. St. Stephen was burnt down 18th June 1961, and replaced by another nearby. The shell of the building was demolished in 1968. SD 700 007. From an old postcard (franked 1933), Bulman Collection.
