St. John (Methodist) on Church Street. SD 8184 6393. © Steve Bulman (2006). The church was demolished at some point after September 2011 - the houses built on its  site were seen by Streetview in 2021. Link. A new Methodist Church was built on Mains View (off Penyghent View) at SD 8176 6392. It stands adjacent to the church hall, originally the Sunday School for the old church. © Martin Richter (2026).

The former St. Mary and St. Michael (R.C.) stands on Albert Hill, and was seen by Streetview in 2024. It pre-dates a map of 1909, and may pre-date one of 1851, which shows an un-labelled building on the same site. It shows as still active on mid-20th century maps, but was closed at some point and converted to housing. SD 8232 6334. After its closure the church re-located to what had been the church hall, on Kirkgate and Tilman Close, at SD 8168 6396. 2024 Streetview. Link.

Zion Independent Congregational Chapel. SD 8213 6352. © Steve Bulman (2006). Grade II listed.

A possible former chapel stands on Chapel Yard (the yellowish-bricked building to the right), and is currently the Masonic Lodge. There are no other likely-looking chapel candidates nearby. ca. SD 819 635. Can you advise any history? © Steve Bulman (2011). Howard Richter has drawn my attention to the following link, which mentions a Wesleyan Chapel in 1843. Can you confirm this identification?
