The Baptist Church on Mill Road and Eastoft Road. The leftmost part of the building has a date-stone for Baptist Church Established 1599, re-built 1879, and the other half, Sabbath School, opened 1820, re-built 1879. SE 7739 1318. © James Murray. The former Congregational Chapel stands on Fieldside, at SE 7736 1299. It's now in commercial use. A newspaper article dated 1880 records the laying of the foundation stone, on the site of its predecessor built about 100 years earlier. If AI is to be believed, it was closed before 1950. O.S. maps were no longer labelling it as a place of worship by the mid century. © David Regan (2026).

The cemetery on Mill Road has a double Mortuary Chapel. The date-stone in the archway is for 1862. In an unusual move, the building is now used for council meetings. SE 7760 1316. © David Regan (2026). Link.

A Primitive Methodist Chapel used to stand at the junction of Cross Street and North Street, at SE 7721 1312. Dated here (where there are photos, including an interior) to 1862-1965,  and subsequently demolished. The housing (The Old Chapel) on the site nicely reflects its predecessor, and includes some re-cycled date-stones, etc - one here for 1862. Both © David Regan (2026).

St. Norbert (R.C.) on Fieldside, and its interior. This source dates it to 1872. SE 7739 1295. Both © Mike Forbester. Another view, © David Regan (2026). Facebook.

The Methodist Church (originally Wesleyan) is on Fieldside. An old newspaper story dates the foundation stone laying to 1904, "near the site from which the old building has been removed". SE 7739 1287. © David Regan (2026). Link. An 1885 map has a label for Meth. Chapel (Wesleyan), but it isn't exactly clear which building is intended. However, it was on the same road, a very short distance further north, and probably on the same side of the road.
